Castor oil has been using for long as a remedy of hair fall and thinning hair. You can use it for many other purpose such as, moisturizing dry hair, taming frizz and controlling tangles. Preparing the Oil
Applying castor oil might seem like simple, but there are a few things you can do to make it more effective and easier. Here are the things you will need.
- Castor oil
- Other oil (argan, avocado, coconut, jojoba, sweet almond, etc.)
- Hot water
- Bowl
- Jar
- Shower cap
- Towel
- Old shirt (recommended)
Dilute the castor oil with another oil, though it is fairly thick mixing it with another oil can make it a little easier to apply. Mix castor with one part castor with another oil like argan, jojoba, coconut or other. Here is an example for you. Combine 3 tablespoons (44 ml) castor oil, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) jojoba oil and 1 tablespoon (15 ml) coconut oil.
You can add a few drops of essential oil to mask the smell as castor oil smell bad. You can add rosemary or teat tree.
Pour all of the oils into a small jar and shake the jar to get a perfect mixture. Shake the jar closing the lid tightly and later open the lid.
You can do a hot oil treatment with castor oil by warming it in hot water, because hot oil is more effective. Fill a bowl with hot water and keep the castor oil jar on it. Make sure the jar is enough large to fit on the bowl. Do not try to warm the oil in other way or in the microwave. Put the jar into water and leave it for 5 minutes. Make sure no liquid gets in or out.
Once the oil get warm pour it into a small bowl. It will help you to dip the fingers and apply easily. You can use am eye-dropper to drip the oil into scalp easily. If you don’t have an eye dropper you can use a bottle with a nozzle.
Using the Castor Oil
Damp your hair if you like to. Dampening helps to absorb oil better, though you can apply the oil to dry hair. A quick way to damp your hair is spraying your hair with a spray bottle. Your hair should be damp notwet.
Cover your shoulder with a towel to protect your clothes from getting covered with oil. You can wear a cloth that is non-usable or you don’t care. You can avoid getting oil stains on your good clothes.
Dip your finger into the oil and massage your scalp for a few minutes. Do not use much oil and use your fingers to spread between your hair roots through the scalp. Use an eye dropper to drip the oil into your scalp.
Finish it off
Cover your head with a shower cap; it will prevent your hair from drying. After that oil wrap your head with a towel soaking with hot water. Wait minimum an hour to 3 hour before washing. Washing without product like shampoo or conditioner is effective. If you do not feel oily you can skip washing for more effect. You can apply the treatment once or twice in a week, while you can use castor oil every day.
