Hair. We love to hate it sometimes. Universally women just seem to want more out of their hair, and often it’s something our hair simply cannot deliver. So how can we turn that hair “no”, into a hair “yes”? The key is the fringe. And for those whose hair grows far too fast, or is too difficult for that blunt bang, the side swept fringe (or bang) is the way to go! Not only does it cut back on a number of times we pop over to the salon for a quick trim, but it will also prevent those over the sink meltdowns because we attempted a DIY trim from home. So let’s start with the basic side fringe, nothing too fancy, just a blunt fringe pulled over to the side. Add a touch of ombre color, and it enhances the look tenfold. It gives dimension to the hairstyle without cutting off too much around the face, not to mention it’s rather fun to play around with different color-scapes for our hair.
1. Burgundy Blush.
Pair a luscious, rich red color with a soft feathered fringe to create a sexy but flirty hairstyle. Not to mention this fringe could be used with hair pulled back, or add extra softness around the face when the hair is curled. (As an aside, pair this hairstyle/color with a rich red wine lip color for a night on the town).
2. Off-Side
This one is for those looking to change up their heavy, blunt style fringe. Just pull one side of the bang over, tuck under the rest of your locks and add a touch of hair spray to hold. Compliment this hairstyle with some long lashes, and a nude lip for an added POP. And for those little fly-away hairs, grab a toothbrush, spritz with some hairspray and tame those strays!
3. Pixie Illusion
Here’s one for those with short, pixie styled locks looking to add an illusion of length! Brush the top of the hair forward (back to front), add a touch of hairspray and repeat. Once the hair has been brushed forward, use fingers to pull the front of the hair off to the side. Spray again. One can now leave it straight, add a little flip with a flat iron, or create soft curls with a curling iron. This hairstyle is perfect for those days when we need to look fabulous, but don’t have a lot of time to do it in!
4. Faux Fringe
For medium length hair (with no fringe) simply part the hair to the side, gently curl the ends under, and pull the side part over. Keep in place with a little hairspray. For a more tousled look, spritz hands with a bit of hairspray and scrunch through hair.
5. Next on the list is a Lash Skimming Fringe
Though the fringe comes across the entire forehead, it starts out light and gradually becomes thicker as it reaches the end of the “side sweep”, all while “skimming” the tops of one’s lashes. It’s a great way to add some softness for more angled faces, without having the edginess of a blunt fringe.
6. Choppy is the New Black
Big piece chunks of fringe being tousled and held in place with a little wax or hair putty are the perfect addition to an edgy bob.
7. Long Layers, Hint of Fringe
is another option for those not looking for the upkeep of a full-on fringe. The hairstylist will simply incorporate a side fringe into the longer layers being trimmed, almost like a “hidden fringe” (as it were). This way hair can be worn with or without saying fringe. Perfect for those who like to pull their hair back with ease, but when styling for a night out has the option of softness.
8. Gypsy Fringe
This particular style allows for a side part, which leads to a side fringe. This fringe is a little pricey, and can be straightened, while the rest of the hair remains curled. This adds a bit of texture (and let’s be honest, FUN) to any hairstyle.
9. Last on the list is the classic
Over the Eye Side Fringe. It starts with a side part, which is also the beginning of the fringe. This particular fringe style is a little longer, and can easily be styled to suit your day’s needs. Whether it’s a quick ponytail, a soft curl, or straight and edgy. This style would also pair well with an ombre color, soft blonde, or bold and black.
